Topic: Simulation of particle growth, correlations and thin film formation in complex plasmas
Project leader:   Bonitz, Michael, Prof. Dr., Institut für Theoretische Physik und Astrophysik, Uni Kiel

The project is devoted to complex plasmas in which nanometer-size particles are growing and are deposited on solid surfaces. The research will focus on the particle growth dynamics, the thin film formation process and the electrical, optical and magnetic properties of the produced composite material. The methods being used are kinetic Monte Carlo, molecular dynamics and particle in cell simulations. The final goal is to develop a self-consistent computer simulation which is capable to describe current magnetron sputtering experiments performed in the TRR24 as well as to optimize the plasma parameters required to produce a desired material.
